Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Program, Advisory & Assistance Services

 

  • The Nuclear Weapons Safety and Security (NWSS) program collaborates with the Russian Federation to secure nuclear weapons against international threats. The NWSS program provides physical security upgrades and related support for inventory tracking, weapons movement, personnel reliability, and sustainability
  • WMD Proliferation Prevention Initiative (WMD-PPI) is a program focused on strengthening the borders of non-Russian Former Soviet Union (FSU) states against the potential proliferation of WMD materials, related components, and technologies. The program’s overarching goal is to provide a sustainable border security infrastructure to host nations allowing the m the ability to independently operate a successful and efficient border security program.
  • The Chemical Weapons Elimination (CWE) program is responsible for assisting Russia to meet its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) by providing a Chemical Weapons Destruction Facility. Additionally, the CWE program assisted Albania in completing destruction of all of its chemical weapons. As of December 2009 reports have indicated that Russia has successfully destroyed 18,000 metric tons, which amounts to 45% of its stockpile.
  • CTR Integration (Logistics, Audits & Evaluations) is responsible for managing export licensing and transportation of equipment from the US to recipient nations. The program additionally provides for audits and examinations (A&E) to verify the use of technical assistance for its intended purpose.
